Dear community, 

My heart is aching so deeply for those affected by the devastating fires in Maui, especially those native to that incredibly vibrant land.

The ABC team and I were recently taking space to process the sheer destruction, loss, grief and greed happening in response to these tragic events.

We were discussing how easy it is, when tragedy occurs, to turn a cheek to emotionally self-protect from the unimaginable – when what’s needed is collective action, no matter how big or small. 

This being said, I encourage you to take a step forward and support these folks if you haven’t already done so – many of whom lost everything… your loving contribution, no matter what size, matters and truly makes a difference.

Here’s a list of funds to donate to and actions for you to take:

Maui Strong

The Maui Strong Fund ensures rapid response and recovery for those affected by the Maui wildfires. 100% of the funds go directly to community needs.

Kākoʻo Maui Fund

The Council for Native Hawaiian Advancement, Alakaina Foundation Family, and Kako’o Haleakala will match up to $100,000 in donations for Kako’o Maui. Funds go directly to native families and businesses affected. 

Nā Keiki O Emalia

Nā Keiki O Emalia offers free support groups for children and teens affected, offering a safe environment to navigate their grief and how to cope with family loss.

Maui Food Bank

For every $1 gifted, the Maui Food Bank offers 4 meals to island residents in need.

Host a Fundraising Event:  Host a class, workshop or event and donate all or a portion of the proceeds to Maui wildfire relief efforts.

Sign your name to help ensure that Hawaiian lands stay in Hawaiian hands, and out of greedy corporate or government interests.

May we remember that in the face of devastation, challenge and adversity, that loving acts of kindness and generosity act as a beacon of light and hope for the communities affected. 

May the people of Lahaina, and all affected, heal in time, and may we learn and grow from what this devastating event has to teach us…  

And, may we live our lives infused with the meaning of Aloha – that is embedded into the Hawaiian islands and culture: respect, honor and love each other, live in harmony with everything around you, practice reciprocity, and treat each other and our sweet planet with care and reverence.
