My Top 5 Healthy Travel Tips!

Lead With Strength. Embody Your Truth. Spread The Love.

My Midwest Trip!

I just got back from an exciting 2 1/2 week trip to the good old Midwest—the place that I called home for the first 25 years of my life.

It can feel challenging to continue to eat well and take care of our bods while traveling, so today I wanted to share with you my top 5 Strong Body Love strategies on how to stay fit, healthy and grounded while on the road.

#1 Meditate daily

All those planes, trains and automobiles can leave us feeling crazy unsettled at times. My suggestion? Ground yourself daily with a 5-minute morning meditation sit. Meditation provides us with emotional balance, increased immunity, lowered blood pressure, and helps us to keep our calm on. Combine your sit with a positive affirmation for an added happy boost! Visit Strong Body Love on Facebook for inspirational daily positive affirmations.

#2 Pack Healthy Snacks

Healthy snack and food options can be tough to find while en route. So…be that bag lady and bring them with! Roasted plantain chips, homemade trail mix, fruit and veggie slices, dark chocolate and gluten free biscotti are all great portable choices.

#3 Move Your Body

Physical activity can seem next to impossible to rock out while traveling. Whether it’s for work or pleasure, physicality usually gets the boot while we’re in transit. But there is a solution! Check out yogaglo.com for on the go yoga classes…love this site! Also pack your travel friendly theraband for some quick strengthening and stretching, and stay tuned for exciting mindful movement videos coming soon to the SBL site!

#4 Hydrate

Dehydration is a common theme amongst us nomadic folk. Instead of that in flight cocktail, opt for hydrating options instead. Potassium rich coconut water, herbal teas and lemon water are all great options. Most airports are carrying coconut water these days, and feel free to bring your own stash of teas for variety.

#5 Get Your Beauty Rest

Between the jet lag and the late night fiestas, we sometimes feel the need to take a vacation from our vacation. Make sure to get at least 8 hours of sleep a night if possible, and if the zzzz’s aren’t coming on easy, try Valerian root supplements. Used to treat insomnia for thousands of years, Valerian has sedative and relaxing qualities. Also, try combining peppermint and chamomile teas for a sleepy time effect.
