The gift of Winter Solstice (and why darkness isn’t the enemy)

Lead With Strength. Embody Your Truth. Spread The Love.

This coming Sunday is the Winter Solstice—the longest night, and shortest day of the year…

And instead of rushing past it or wishing it away, I want to invite you to really be with what this day holds – the deepest rest, and the most tender and magical pause.

There’s something radical about honoring the darkness. About saying YES to rest when the world tells us to keep pushing. About trusting that seeds are growing even when we can’t see them yet.

Today, the sun pauses at its southernmost point and begins its journey back to us.  From this moment forward, each day will hold a little more light – the light is born again. But the return of the light is only possible when we allow the deep rest of winter.

Nature doesn’t apologize for this cycle. Trees don’t feel guilty about dropping their leaves. Seeds don’t rush their underground preparation time.

What if we didn’t either?

What if we honored our own need to go underground for a while, to dream in the dark, to let our deepest wisdom emerge not from doing but from being?

I’m thinking about all the ways we’ve been taught that rest is lazy, that not knowing is weakness, that darkness is something to fear or fix.

But what if our most profound transformations happen exactly here—in the quiet spaces, the pauses between breaths, the rich soil of not-yet?

Today, as the wheel turns and light begins its return, I’m not making plans or setting intentions. I’m just being present with this tender threshold. Honoring what wants to be released. Making space for what wants to emerge, in its own perfect timing.

There’s something beautiful about trusting the cyclical shift of the seasons. About knowing that fallow periods aren’t failures—they’re preparation… That our most creative, life-giving work often grows from the compost of our deepest rest.

The light is returning, dear one. But it’s returning because we first allowed ourselves the gift of darkness.

How are you honoring your own winter season right now? What wants to rest, to go underground, to be held in the quiet spaces of not-yet?

There’s no rush. The light knows when to return. And so do you.
